Wrap Up

Alas, our month cooking together has just about ended.  Please write about...
Your favorite meal/dish to eat, and why you liked it so much
Your favorite dish that you cooked, and why it was fun to make
A food that you liked that surprised you, and why it was a shock
A cooking implement or technique that you learned how to use properly

I really loved the dips we made with Leahy's class (the guacamole and hummus); they were way tastier than store bought.  It was interesting to see who worked well together and who didn't, and who learned to work together by the end of the course.  Certainly, everyone knew everyone else's mistakes, but since we all made them and learned from them (shout out to Carristian's cookbook article), it's all good in the end.

  1. My favorite meal of the month was the steak. I liked it a lot because I was able to see the process step by step with my eyes. My favorite dish that I made was the bread that we made on the first day. It was fun to make because we were able to see who was good at what. EXP. Raf and his zesting. The fish tacos surprised me because I never really thought of eating fish in that manner. After today I was able to prove that milk sites actually help relieve the burning sensation of the jalapeno.

  2. My favorite meal to eat was the Filipino food. I liked it so much because I have never had it before and the process to make everything was really cool. My favorite dish to make was the Alaska burgers. I usually never make my hamburgers by hand. I usually buy them pre-made so it was cool to do something different for a change. Something that I liked that surprised me was the Indian food. I really liked it but I always imagined it to never taste good. I also learned how to use knives the proper way. I just improved on my cutting technique and now cutting things are a lot easier.

  3. My favorite meal was the Italian food because I had never thought of using things like that to make lasagna. My favorite dish I made were the churros because they were easy to make and came out great. I was suprised that I liked the pretzel covered chicken because it was a foreign idea, but the flovors blended well together. I learned how to use the rolling pin really well.

  4. My favorite meal that we made was the steaks with Mr. Leahy's class. The steaks were my favorite because they were so big and full of flavor with the chipolte seasoning.
One of my favorite dishes we made was the Alaskan burgers. They were so fun to make when we had to mold the raw ground beef around the blocks of cheese and they were fun to cook on the grill. My other favorite dish we made was the 10 pounds of bacon. It was fun dodging all the grease flying around when we were cooking.
A meal that I was surprised that I liked was the Filipino food. I never had Filipino food and thought that I wouldn't have liked it but the food was amazing.
In the class I learned how to properly hold a knife when I cut something so my cuts are neat and my food doesn't fly all over the place.

  5. At the beginning of the course, I was interested in learning how to enhance my cooking abilities to the fullest. I am able to say that this course fulfilled every expectation that was given. All of the food prepared was amazing, but my favorite was probably the empanadas. They were much better than I expected. Nice and crunchy, packed with flavor, and easy to make. My favorite dish I prepared was the stuffed bread. Mainly because of the way I was able to roll it, it made it very fun. A meal that surprised me was the Eggs Benedict. Looking at it, it seemed very nasty and sloppy. After having a first bite, I was more than pleased with the taste. And last but not least, the cutting technique. Cutting was a large piece in the course and it was very important to pick up skills so you don't injure yourself or others. It was a pleasure to have this course along with the people I had worked with. If I was able to fail the class so I can retake it again, I would have non stop fun while learning how to be the best chef in my house.

  6. Dr. Lansang's Filipino cuisines were immaculate. It was adventurous and very different from what I eat on a day to day basis. The stuffed bread on Italian day tasted like it came from heaven and had everything I like in a meal. The glass noodles on Filipino day shocked me because I expected a bland taste but it tasted amazing. I learned how to cut correctly, some simple baking hacks and how to have a good time in the kitchen overall.
