All About Well-Sweep

We visited Well-Sweep Herb Farm in Warren County last week.  It is owned and operated by the Hyde family, who started buying property for the farm back in the 1960s.  Mr. Hyde is a renowned expert on herbs and has some pretty cool looking Japanese chickens too.  I always enjoy trips there because it's fun to taste plants, learn stories about parts they played in history, and find out how to use them as medicine.

Talk about your experience on the trip.  It could be about something interesting you learned, a plant that intrigued you, a story Mr. Hyde told that you liked, etc.

  1. The trip to Well-Sweep was a great experience. I loved the fact that they had everything that they needed in their own farm. What I mean by that they had their own gift shop, two green houses with like 50 plants in each, and another 100 plants and trees outside. It was amazing. The part I liked the most was that they sold a lot of the plants they gave to people. The plant I bought is already beginning to drop seeds and I expect to plant them soon. I loved the trip!

  2. When I first arrived at Well-Sweep I was expecting the farm to be a lot bigger like the farms we passed on the way in. Once we actually walked around the farm there was a lot more than I expected. One of the things that I found to be interesting were the types of plants that Mr. Hyde had on his farm. I think my favorite plant was the tooth numbing plant, and the plants that would light up the walkways. Another thing I found really interesting was the amount of food his wife would make with all of the plants he would grow in the garden. Overall I had a really good experience at Well-Sweep.

  3. The opportunity to go on Mr. Hyde's farm and learn about all of the uses for the different plants was an awesome experience. Seeing farm animals again in a long time gave me many flashbacks from when I was a little kid on my uncle's farm. I'd say the best part of the experience was learning the history and multiple uses of the plants; everything from medicinal uses to war paint in battle really intrigued me. The Japanese chickens were also a lot of fun to see as well as the farm's dog. This was a very memorable experience and I hope to do it again in the future.

  4. My first initial thought of going to Well-Sweep Herb Farm was that it was going to be boring, a lot of walking and a whole bunch of useful information about plants. My mindset was quickly shifted when we arrived at the farm. Mr. Hyde, our tour guide, shared a lot of important facts that were actually interesting. We were able to see all of the plants Mr. Hyde was growing on his farm as well as his animals. My favorite aspect of the trip was learning about the history of each plant, where it originated, and what it could potentially be used for. Learning about plants that dated back to prehistoric times that he was actually growing was amazing. It immediately caught my attention and kept me interested throughout the entire trip. I found it important to never prejudge about anything. This was mainly because I had a great time and really enjoyed myself. I would recommend to anyone to plan a visit to the Well-Sweep Herb Farm in Warren county and be educated about plants, herbs, and many more.

  5. This was the second time I have visited the Well-Sweep Farm and my experience this time was completely different. I went from being as uninterested as possible the first time to being completely engaged and trying to get others interested the second time. I never knew that you can do so many things with plants like heal cuts or ease tooth pain. I also enjoyed making the Venus Fly Traps close up and smelling the root beer plant. My favorite part of the whole trip was holding the rooster even though I was scared beyond belief. This was an amazing and extremely informational trip and well worth missing a day of cooking food.

  6. While on the farm I saw many things that intrigued me. What amazed me the most was how organized he was with his plants, he had them labeled and all in their own categories. When I first got to the farm I really needed to use the bathroom. While waiting a worker pointed to two bathrooms but I wasn't sure what to expect. As I walked into the bathroom I opened the door and there it was. I had walked in to one of the finest outhouses ever in my life. This house had wooden seats and one section for adults and little children. Surprisingly it smelled extremely well and was very eye appealing.
