A Great Time!!!
I'm having a lot of fun , cooking , and relaxing . For the past two days I've been meeting students and facility I never talked to before . I'm still practicing the statement " Stepping out of your box". I'm trying new things and enjoying my life, sometimes you have to forget about your problems and have fun because life is too short . Remember trouble don't last always, the bible says" Weeping may endure for a night but joy will come in the morning"-Psalms30:5 ! So I'm relaxing and hanging out with my peers , and letting God fight my battles!!!!
Technique Tuesday
Yesterday we were successful in cooking for not only our class but also the entire staff of the backpacking project. Preparing for dinner was extremely successful with us making record time. We cranked out a bunch of breadsticks and also baked four cakes. We drove up to Munsee and had a little break before we had to prepare dinner. We made penne vodka which had an incredible sauce, an interesting salad, and a dessert that had diabetes written all over it. At the end of the night there was nothing left over, so it seems our cooking was very good and appreciated. At the end of the night we got to relax in the cabin with the class and had a lot of fun. There is some drama surrounding today so I don't know when we will be eating but we have a lot of prep work done and we are ready to make Alaska burgers and Italian hot dogs.
We Live, We Learn, We Have Fun
I really enjoyed last night. Even though we had a lot of prep and cooking to do, we succeeded in feeding over 50 people. Due to the amount of food that was left, which was none, it clearly states that the food was pretty good.
Making the sauce for the penne pasta I wish I added a bit more salt. The sauce tasted as if it was missing something. Even though I felt as if it was missing something it ended well.
The night in the cabin was really funny. Making jokes, listening to music and laughing to no end, it just felt right. I hope today goes well with the dinner as well as the night in this cabin.

The Satisfaction of Cooking
Yesterday was the first time that I helped cook for a very large group of people. It took a lot of preparation and work, but the satisfaction of our hungry customers (the trail staff) made all that hard work worth it. I enjoyed working with my fellow classmates, as they made it easier to get through the work. I can't wait to eat the Alaskan Burgers that me and Kevin made! I'm sure that everybody will enjoy it. I'm so happy with everything that I've learned so far!
Rain and Macaroni
There have been two things in copious amounts so far on this year's 3 day hike - rain and macaroni. It started pouring some time overnight, and was still pouring this morning. I saw a team of freshmen as I left our cabin, and was only able to elicit some anemic "hellos" in response to my "good morning." If I had to hike and sleep in the rain, I'm sure I'd feel the same.
Last night we cooked 10 lbs. of penne for the trail staff (about 50 people). It's a challenge to boil that much water and cook that much sauce, but gratifying when there is absolutely nothing left in the pot after dinner. Everyone did a great job completing tasks both here and back at school, where the guys baked 7 batches of breadsticks. They're a very efficient crew, and good company too.

Welcome to Cooking '13!
Today is our first day of Spring Phase for 2013, and we spent the day buying copious amounts of groceries and purchasing plants for our culinary herb garden. I'm looking forward to learning how to cook Filipino food with Dr. Lansang on 5/14, and our yearly trip to Well-Sweep Herb Farm is something I anticipate with excitement (if only I could get ALL the plants!). Of course, Mr. Rodriguez and I look forward to winning at spades while we're up at the trail.
What are you looking forward to this spring phase?
